Do you have any resolutions for the New Year? The people who are working to restrict your reproductive rights have plenty of resolutions, and you can bet that they will be fanatical in following through on them… just like they were in 2015.
While you’re making resolutions about carbs, gym attendance, and time spent online, the creepy kids from high school have gotten themselves elected to the state legislature and are busy making resolutions to spend more quality time in your uterus.
The year-end report from the Center for Reproductive Rights (nicely summarized in this Mother Jones article) shows just how effective those creeps have been in occupying your lady parts. Almost 400 anti-abortion bills were introduced in 2015, and 57 of them became law. They range from restrictions on medication abortions to even longer waiting periods to outright bans on the most common method of second-trimester abortions. And they have even more invasive plans for 2016.
This is the time of year we ask ourselves two questions: “Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne?” and “What the hell does that mean?” This year you should also ask yourself “Am I going to let some sphincter-clenching sexually repressed state legislator control access to and from my reproductive organs?” If the answer is no, make a resolution to join with Lady Parts Justice League in turning back the clock on the people who have been turning back abortion rights.
