Is this the Monday-est Monday that ever Monday-ed? First we woke up this morning, excited to watch Serena Williams trounce Maria Sharapova today ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT SERENA IS INJURED (get well soon, queen)! Then, we hear about this Masterpiece Cakeshop case. “The court held that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission showed hostility toward the baker based on his religious beliefs.” So apparently you’re ALLOWED to be an asshole bigot who denies people basic human decency but you CANNOT be a Civil Rights Commission that shows any sort of hostility towards that type of person. Although no major precedent was set, the assholes won, and they won on a grand scale. I mean, just look who is excitedly tweeting about it.  Even if it doesn’t set a precedent, the dipshit baker gets to go on being a bigot selling his piece of shit cakes to other bigots. Oh but, there is ANOTHER ANNOYING THING THAT THE SUPREME COURT DID TODAY TOO. Honestly, SCOTUS, we’re real disappointed. The justices ruled on the Jane Doe abortion case today.  Or rather they… released an order that legit none of the judges even signed.

Now, because this ruling is so vague and noncommittal, it’s hard to decide how to feel about it. The good: the Supreme Court rejected the request of the Trump administration lawyers to sanction the ACLU lawyers. The bad: the Supreme Court vacated the lower court’s decision that set a precedent for immigrant teens seeking abortion. However, this does not affect the other cases that have gone and will go in front of judges of other immigrant teens. The ACLU and groups like them are still valiantly fighting a blatantly unconstitutional policy of denying immigrants in HHS custody abortions. We will prevail!

So this Monday let’s remember some hard truths: in the Jane Doe case, HHS tried to run out the clock so she couldn’t get an abortion. The Jane Roe in Roe v. Wade ENDED UP HAVING HER BABY BECAUSE OF HOW LONG THE FUCKING CASE TOOK!  Sometimes it feels like we’re in a no-win situation. Like the other side gets to play fast and loose with the rules, but we are forced to follow every small statute to a T. It’s no fun.

But we can persevere! We’re on the right side of history. And we will win!
