(December 9, 2019) Today the Supreme Court rejected a challenge to Kentucky’s invasive and stigmatizing ultrasound law. This law, passed in 2017, requires doctors to perform transvaginal ultrasounds while describing and showing images of the fetus and playing the sound of the fetal heartbeat to patients before they can perform abortions. There is not an ounce of medical basis to this highly unethical law.
Abortion Access Front (AAF) condemns this cruel anti-abortion law. This is just another barbaric, not to mention, medically unfounded tactic whose primary goal is to coerce and derail pregnant people from having a reproductive health care procedure that is their constitutional right. Today AAF is calling out the Supreme Court for upholding policies that sideline bodily autonomy for oppressive trickery. This isn’t health care policy. This is psychological warfare.
