Today is a day it is hard to be funny because literally we’ve been flipping tables all morning and still feel like we wanna burn it all down. We wanna let all the animals free at the zoo, run off into the wilderness, start a new society, establish our own set of laws, live off the land. JUST GET US AWAY FROM THIS SHIT!
But we will obviously stay, and keep fighting, even though it feels like they are constantly trying to chip away parts of us.
So let’s talk about Marshae Jones. We are sure that Alabama is going to TRY to spin this story in some dark way because currently it looks SOOOO cruel. But for now here are the facts we know. Jones was SHOT IN THE STOMACH which caused her to miscarry. She is now being charged with manslaughter. She was indicted. THIS WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY THROWN OUT OF COURT AS LUDICROUS. The woman who shot her was also tried for manslaughter… not indicted.
It’s so disgustingly racist. It’s so dehumanizing. It’s horrible. Plain and simple. Regardless of what else we learn, this will remain.
We think there’s no better encapsulation of the current reproductive rights moment than a MAN looking at a woman who has been shot in the stomach and saying, “The investigation showed that the only true victim in this was the unborn baby.”
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?
At this point… a woman is being held responsible for GETTING SHOT.
EVEN if she instigated the fight, that is insane logic. We’re just supposed to never argue with anyone when pregnant, because they could have a gun? We’re just supposed to, once we get pregnant, take responsibility for EVERYONE ELSE’S ACTIONS AND REACTIONS?
