The reproductive rights news keeps us furious week in and week out. I mean, we’ve been researching these Garbage Fyre people y’all and it is filling us with such a seething, burning anger, it could fuel a rocket to Mars.
But we are human beings so we’d be remiss to not mention how blinding our rage is at all the border detention camp stories that have come out in these past weeks.
Seeing this complete lack of empathy from so many people is sickening.
And it leads us to this… completely tonedeaf article about the Hyde Amendment. It begins:
“All of society respects the man who cares for the homeless because as a culture we believe no life should be just thrown away. Everyone grieves, prays and works to help those struggling with addiction because we care about human dignity. We all admire the woman who feeds a hungry child or serves as a reading mentor because we universally acknowledge that every person deserves a chance.”
We say this a lot… but how fucking DARE you make this kind of argument to further your misognyist, offensive believes. THERE WAS A PHOTO ON THE COVER OF THE NEW YORK TIMES TODAY OF A CHILD AND THEIR PARENT WHO DROWNED TRYING TO GET TO THE UNITED STATES. HOW DARE YOU ARGUE THAT THE CALLOUS PEOPLE ARE THE ONES WHO ARGUE FOR BODY AUTONOMY. THE CALLOUS PEOPLE ARE THE ONES WHO DENY CHILDREN SOAP.
You can’t even begin to argue about “human dignity” if you are not railing against the current conditions of refugees in the United States. Full stop.
