Is this a healthcare bill, or a “just some healthcare” bill? The ACA is being held hostage by Republicans. Again! Yes these “We care about the sanctity of ‘human life'… and by human life we mean ‘big banks'” politicians are trying to get the Hyde Amendment, banning federal funds for abortion care, permanently attached to ACA. Because you know the right’s new motto is “Instead of Fixing A Problem, Let’s Just Make it Exclusively About How We Think Abortion is Icky.”

Meanwhile, IOWA wants to actually UP the ante on unconstitutionality by passing a “fetal heartbeat” bill that effectively bans abortion after SIX weeks! All they’re doing is creating a legal crap-fest and wasting taxpayer dollars. Oh, and pointlessly harassing people seeking medical care.

This is why we can’t do nice things. Just as our hearts were warmed by millions of high school kids taking a stand against gun violence, some teacher with a grudge about abortion has to goad some other kids into making it all about her vendetta against repro rights. Watch & weep.
