Abortion is safe.
We’ll buy a billboard, rent a plane and fly a banner behind it, hire a skywriter, to yell it from the roof.
What is NOT safe is inventing science to spread your anti-abortion propaganda. In fact, we’d argue it’s … insane.
So let’s talk about “abortion reversal.” Some “physician,” named George Delgado, decided to take it upon himself to see how he could STOP medication abortion AS it happens. You see, the patriarchy wants us to second guess our ALREADY ESTABLISHED decisions every second of the WAY. Medication abortion is two types of pills: Mifepristone and then Misoprostol 24 hours later. Mifepristone is a progesterone blocker. So these BRILLIANT NIGHTMARE OF A MAN was like “OK so, what if we just PUMP patients with progesterone after the first one).”
It worked a few times and BAM SEVEN states require providers to tell their patients about this progesterone “abortion reversal” idea. FUCKING SEVEN STATES, 14% of states, did this bullshit because ONE doctor tried it on a few patients. This is NOT how studies work. We feel like… that should go without saying.
But so anyway, enter Dr. Mitchell Creinin, who back in March announced he was working on a REAL study of this method. And now, this study, obviously had to be complicated, because if the abortion was “reversed” (which, you know, is a bad term but that’s like 60th on a list of what is wrong with this) and the person ACTUALLY did want an abortion, what then. So he set up a very carefully examined study to see, OK, does progesterone work.
And GUESS what happened?? The study had to be shut down BECAUSE … 3 patients were rushed to the hospital with uncontrollable bleeding.
Was it because medication abortion is unsafe? Nope.
Turns out, you make a VERY safe process VERY dangerous when you attempt to disrupt it.
“Encouraging women to not complete the regimen should be considered experimental … We have some evidence that it could cause very significant bleeding.” said Dr. Mitchell Creinin.
SEEMS LIKE MAYBE THEY SHOULDA DONE MORE TESTS BEFORE PUTTING THIS NONSENSE INTO LAW! Science isn’t just whatever you want it to be.
So again a reminder to all: abortion is safe. Stop trying to make it UNSAFE.
